National Trails Coalition Stakeholders

The 2009-2010 Federal Budget was passed in Parliament on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, thereby confirming the commitment by the Government of Canada to make a $25 million contribution to a national trail infrastructure program. The program is for a one-year period commencing on April 1st, 2009.

The partners of the National Trails Coalition met in Toronto Wednesday, February 4, 2009, to begin drafting an implementation plan. This plan will be presented to the federal government for approval in the coming weeks.

The implementation plan will address many of the issues that people have been inquiring about since the announcement was made last week including:

• The process through which the National Trails Coalition will work with its provincial & territorial affiliates to deliver the program;

• The application process and expected eligible expenses;

• The criteria that will be used to screen applications on a jurisdictional basis; and

• The cost sharing expected by partners and what constitutes an eligible contribution.

More specific information will be provided as it becomes available following consultation with the Government of Canada.
