COHV Membership

COHV General Membership Information

The Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council (COHV) is a national, non-profit trade association that represents the manufacturers and distributors of off road motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles and related products and services in Canada.

Tier I & Tier II Membership:

Tier I membership in the association is limited to those organizations engaged in the business of manufacturing and/or distributing ATVs and Off-Road Motorcycles in Canada.

Tier II membership in the association is limited to those organizations engaged in the business of manufacturing and/or distributing whole ATVs and Off-Road Motorcycles in Canada.

COHV Tier I Members:

Tier I membership in the association is limited to those organizations engaged in the business of manufacturing and/or distributing whole ATVs and Off-Road Motorcycles in Canada.  The Board of Directors of the COHV may, by resolution, admit as a new member any organization fulfilling the necessary criteria, having received a written request for membership.

Tier I members have certain rights and privileges as outlined herein and are entitled to a full range of benefits and services offered by the COHV, including:

  • One voting member on each committee of the COHV.

  • Monthly wholesale and retail off road motorcycle and ATV sales statistics, by company, model, cc size, and category, nationally and by province, city and postal code. (participation is mandatory)

  • Volume show discount rates at COHV/MMIC Showcase Shows in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Quebec, Moncton and Montreal.

  • Participation in strategic planning and priority determination for COHV

  • Monthly e-newsletter.

  • Annual Industry Statistics Package.

  • Annual Summary compilation of national Dealers’ Survey.

  • Regular updates on federal and provincial ATV and off-road motorcycle equipment requirements.

  • Regular updates on operator requirements for off road motorcycles and ATVs in each province and territory.

  • Federal and provincial legislative correspondence and submissions on issues that effect the off road motorcycle and ATV industry.

The fee structure for Tier I Members in the COHV is based on four criteria - an annual due of 4,500.00 dollars, a per unit amount which is currently $1.15 per unit sold at wholesale, a wholesale dollar amount based on each company’s percentage of total wholesale dollar sales of all member companies’ wholesale dollar sales, and a ‘purchaser assessment’ of 23.50 dollars per unit sold at retail which supports an industry development program. Member company fees are reviewed and approved each year by the Board of Directors during the budget process.  The fiscal year of the COHV is from January 1st to December 31st.

The main operating committee of the COHV is the Executive Committee.  It meets approximately four times each year.  The Executive Committee reports to the Board of Directors, which meets at least once each year.  The Technical Standards and Compliance Committee, the Policy and Government Relations Committee, the Show Committee, the Public and Media Relations Committee, the Audit Committee and the Statistics Task Force meet approximately three to four times per year depending on the urgency and importance of the subjects being discussed.

Tier II Members

Tier II membership in the association is limited to those organizations engaged in the business of manufacturing and/or distributing whole ATVs and off-road motorcycles in Canada.  The Board of Directors of the COHV may, by resolution, admit as a new member any organization fulfilling the necessary criteria, having received a written request for membership.

Tier II members have certain privileges as outlined herein and are entitled to a range of services for the specified fee as offered by the COHV, including:

The Tier II Member basic fee is $700 per year that includes:

  • Full access to the Importer Assistance Program: Communication with COHV staff on import related subjects and access to selected consultants, educational sessions and services outlined below for Tier II members only.

Additional Fee-For-Service Options:

  • Recognized motorcycle import consultants at preferred rates (COHV will negotiate preferred rate);
  • Special COHV show space discount rate (additional fee of $1000 includes all 7 shows. Please note: to participate in COHV Motorcycle and ATV Shows, the exhibitor must demonstrate product compliance with Transport Canada regulations and standards)
  • Other Services (fee based on cost of service)

  • Special MMIC show space discount rate: Includes all 7 shows.
  • Monthly retail sales statistics by category, cc size, province.

Corporate Affilliate membership fee is $1,000 plus HST for the 2012 program year.
